The Oklahoma Space Renaissance: Lifting Off as America’s Leader in Suborbital Research & Aerospace Manufacturing (IS 25-005)
October 16, 2025 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
AUTHORS: Representative Nick Archer & Representative Preston Stinson
TOPIC OF THE PROPOSAL:
“The Oklahoma Space Renaissance: Lifting Off as America’s Leader in Suborbital Research and Aerospace Manufacturing”
EXPLANATORY COMMENTS ON THE SCOPE OF THE STUDY PROPOSAL:
To explore how Oklahoma can become a global hub for suborbital aerospace activity and space-based R&D. This study will assess:
- Infrastructure and funding needs for the Oklahoma Spaceport (OSIDA)
- Opportunities in microgravity research, including advanced materials,
pharmaceuticals, and bioprinting - Transitioning Oklahoma’s dominance in aircraft MRO into leadership in propulsion
and space manufacturing - The potential for strategic defense partnerships and dual-use capabilities
This study also seeks to determine the appropriate level of state investment required
to launch the Oklahoma Space Renaissance. While a $35 million investment passed the
House with broad bipartisan support, this study will assess whether that figure is sufficient
or requires adjustment. It could be $10 million to kickstart key projects—or $100 million to
fully execute the vision.
